This year we’re seeing more mudders sport smartwear than ever before – worn proudly on wrists as they make their pledge. When you’ve trained so hard it’s nice to be able to see that the work’s paid off and just how far you’ve come.
Take Team Sony for example, who’ve been using Smartwear devices for the last four months to help them train for our most recent event in Yorkshire. With celebrities including singer Vanessa White and writer and broadcaster Rick Edwards, Sony’s SmartWear has certainly come in handy.
“Sony’s SmartBand Talk and Xperia™Z3sync together via an app called Lifelog, which shows me loads of useful information such as how many steps I’ve taken and how many calories I’ve burned – which is always the first thing you want to know after a workout, and it turns out I’ve actually been burning quite a lot, which is good news!” says Vanessa White.
Our good friends at Sony have suggested the best fitness apps to use with their SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk devices. When synced with Sony’s Lifelog app you can monitor your training progress and track your success on the big day.
Or check out Shortlist’s tech-inspired Tough Mudder here. Journalist Tom Wheatley tested his endurance at Tough Mudder Scotland with Sony’s SmartWatch 3 and Xperia Z3.
Runkeeper
Gone are the days of needing to hit the treadmill to keep track ofhow fast and far you’ve run. Using the GPS feature on your Sony SmartWatch 3, Runkeeper calculates the distance you’ve run and how fast you’ve done it. Just slowly build up to the distance of your Tough Mudder event and you can be confident of getting through it on the day. If you’d rather let Runkeeper dictate your training for you there are a number of plans and coaching tools. You’re also able to track progress over specific periods of time and even sync the data with other fitness apps such as Sony’s Lifelog app.
StrongLifts 5×5
This recommends exercises, how much weight to use and how many sets and reps you should be doing to build optimum strength. It tells you how long to rest between sets based on how easy (or hard) you’re finding the workout. If you don’t have a clue what to do in the weights area of the gym, this is the app for you.
7 Minute Workout
This full-body workout is perfect preparation for the challenges you’ll be faced with at Tough Mudder, while the stop-start nature will ready you for waiting for obstacles and the following explosion of energy required to overcome them. The customisable time and length of exercise cycles means you can bust out a quick workout no matter how much time you have, while the lack of equipment required turns any space into your own private gym. The amount of calories you burn in such a short time will make for some impressive stats on Sony’s LifeLog app.
