Obstacle Innovation Lab
Chris is our Tough Mudder Product Manager and 22x Legionnaire, including three World’s Toughest Mudders (He knows his s**t) . He oversees the creation and updating of obstacles each year.
Once the product team brainstorms and refines an idea for an obstacle, it is then built and put to test for the rest of the team to try out alongside with other lucky legionaries. FUN right? I know. Once the crew have voiced their opinions the team analyse the results and decide if the obstacle will be used for the upcoming year. Although this may sound like all fun and games it can take roughly up to 9 months for an obstacle to actually roll out 😮.
These fantastic brainstormed ideas also stem from the Operations Team, Course Designers and Construction Crews as they have a lot of hands-on experience on the road and have valuable suggestions to bring to the table. We cannot wait to see what’s in stall for the upcoming years 😍 (The gift that keeps on giving) 🎁.
Q&A
So how did this magnificent beast of a slide come about? We caught up with Chris for some answers.
1: Where did the idea come from?
We’re always looking for unique ways to mentally challenge our participants. Physiologically, fear and excitement are an identical response, which we wanted to leverage to create a thrilling experience for our Mudders. The steep drop of Slidin’ Dirty provides a moment of true trepidation, before rewarding Mudders with a long, giddy skid to the end.
2: How long did it take to draw up and build?
Slidin’ Dirty took approximately one month to build. The long construction timeline allowed us to test and modify the height and curvature to ensure that it was delivering the experience that we wanted.
3: How long/tall is Slidin’ Dirty?
Slidin’ Dirty is roughly 8 meter tall and 20 meters long.
